Chapter Concept
In Classic Cocktails & How To Make Them, I divided the chapters by the base spirit – it's like a journey through the liquor cabinet. I kick things off with Vodka in a vibrant orange, where you'll discover a world of versatile and refreshing drinks. Then, it's Gin's turn in red, a section filled with classic and famous recipes that have stood the test of time. Blue as the sky, our Whiskey chapter pays homage to the classics, offering up iconic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and Manhattan. The Rum chapter, in green, will transport you to sun-soaked beaches with its tropical vibes. Last but not least, the Tequila chapter in teal will introduce you to agave-based wonders, from the legendary Margarita to creative tequila creations. It's a colourful journey through the spirits that make our favourite drinks, and I can't wait for you to explore each unique chapter.
Theres also an extra tiki chapter under the rum chapter ;)
PRINT AND BINDING
Classic Cocktails & How To Make Them is not just a recipe book; it's an art piece in its own right. It's not just about what's inside the pages; it's about the book itself. I had it printed on a Risograph at the Kudla Werkstatt studio in Prague. The book is also designed with the reader as the most important part. The reason the text is so different from the recipes is so they can be found easily while flipping through. It’s for the same reason that the chapters have their own colours, so you don’t have to flip through the entire book if you don’t remember where a recipe is. That's also why we went with a 'bare spine' binding – it's not just stylish, it's also super practical. You can lay it flat on your bar while you mix up your new favourite cocktails. So, whether you're flipping through the pages for inspiration or showing it off to your friends, this book is all about elevating your home cocktail experience.
Tone
My favourite thing about Classic Cocktails & How To Make Them is the tone. It’s written like you're having a friendly chat with your favourite bartender. No stiff suits or formalities here. It’s all about keeping the feel of sitting at your favourite bar. We want you to feel like you're learning the art of mixology over a couple of drinks with a buddy. So, kick back, flip through the pages, and get ready to soak in the fun and friendly vibe of this book. It's like hanging out with your trusty bartender friend in the comfort of your own home.
Another thing I was really happy with was the little notes I added to some of the pages, where I felt that some things needed context or a little insert from the author
